At Tobii, we’re making the roads safer; not only with state-of-the-art tech that monitors driver states, but also with eye tracking research tools that empower scientists with the means to uncover powerful data about driver behavior, attention and awareness. That's why we’re excited to be hosting a knowledge sharing event around the critical role of eye tracking in automotive research.

Event details

Alongside the Institute for Automotive Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, we’re happy to invite you to a workshop focusing on eye tracking in automotive research. Hear from several speakers who will discuss their automotive eye tracking research and unpack their unique findings with you. You’ll also be able to try out Tobii DMS for yourself in the demo car that will be at the event!

Don’t miss out on discovering how eye tracking drives road safety and automotive tech into the future - save your seat today!

The talks

The role of multimodal behavioral research including eye tracking for vehicle development and road safety

Speaker: Dr. Roland Spies, CEO Ergoneers Group

Description: In this talk, Roland Spies will explore the expanding role of eye tracking technology in driver assistance and in-vehicle infotainment systems, as well as the process of multimodal behavioral analysis incorporating multiple data sources.

Dr. Spies will share his approach to managing parallel data streams, an essential aspect of accurate data interpretation, and will touch on some of the emerging challenges in transportation design.

This presentation will offer practical insights into current automotive research topics and will open up discussions about the future of transportation design – don't miss out!

SAE Level 2, Automated driving and demands on the visual attention of drivers

Speaker: Dr. Johanna Josten, Automated Driving, Manager User Behaviour & Experience, fka GmbH

In this talk, we’ll explore the complexities of handsfree supervision in driver assistance systems, specifically when engaging combined lateral and longitudinal functions. Currently not permitted in Germany, these practices present significant challenges and an opportunity for advancements in safety and ergonomics.

The speakers will highlight crucial findings from the Level 2 Hands-off project. The project analyzed the impact of various driver monitoring systems on visual attention using multiple driving simulator studies conducted in Aachen and Santa Clara. The L2H-off project paves the way for future discussions on safety and system design in driver assistance technology.

Join us as we navigate the evolving landscape of handsfree supervision, exploring its technical requirements, the need for driver behavior compensation, and the ergonomic considerations essential for future development in the field.
